KTE100847 | Rat Catalase (CAT) ELISA Kit — Quantify the Enzyme That Breaks Down Hydrogen Peroxide

Catalase: The Cell's Hydrogen Peroxide Scavenger
Catalase (CAT) is a heme-containing enzyme that catalyzes the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) to water and oxygen—one of the most efficient enzymatic reactions in biology, with a turnover rate of millions of molecules per second. Alongside superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx), catalase forms the front line of enzymatic antioxidant defense. In rat models, catalase activity or concentration is a key indicator of oxidative stress status and antioxidant capacity.
Sandwich ELISA: Direct Quantification of a Key Antioxidant Enzyme
KTE100847 employs a sandwich ELISA format to quantitate catalase in samples. An antibody specific for catalase is pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are added, and any catalase present is captured by the immobilized antibody. After washing, a detection antibody is added, followed by HRP-conjugated secondary antibody. Substrate is added, and color develops in proportion to the amount of catalase bound.
