CheKine™ Micro Citrate Synthase Assay Kit: Powering Mitochondrial and Metabolic Research

Date:2026-07-20 Views:10

Mitochondrial Function & Bioenergetics

Citrate synthase (CS) is the first enzyme of the Krebs cycle (TCA cycle), widely present in the mitochondrial matrix of animals, plants, microorganisms, and cultured cells[reference:9]. As one of the main regulatory sites of the TCA cycle[reference:10], CS activity serves as a gold-standard marker for mitochondrial content and function.

Abbkine's CheKine™ Micro Citrate Synthase (CS) Activity Assay Kit (KTB1023) provides a simple, sensitive, rapid, and colorimetric CS activity detection method compatible with various biological samples — especially animal tissues, plant tissues, and cell cultures (adherent or suspension)[reference:11].

Metabolic & Disease Research

CS activity is a critical parameter in:

  • Metabolic syndrome studies — assessing mitochondrial dysfunction in obesity and diabetes
  • Cardiovascular research — evaluating cardiac mitochondrial health
  • Neurodegenerative disease models — measuring mitochondrial impairment in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's
  • Aging research — tracking age-related mitochondrial decline

Cancer Metabolism

The Warburg effect involves reduced TCA cycle flux. CS activity measurement helps researchers understand:

  • Metabolic rewiring in tumor cells
  • Mitochondrial adaptation to hypoxia
  • Drug effects on cancer cell metabolism

Plant & Environmental Science

CS is a key enzyme in plant energy metabolism. The kit supports:

  • Plant stress physiology studies
  • Crop yield and quality research
  • Environmental toxicology assessments

How It Works

CS catalyzes the condensation of acetyl CoA and oxaloacetate to produce citramoyl coenzyme A, which is further hydrolyzed to citric acid[reference:12]. This reaction converts colorless DTNB to yellow TNB, which has a characteristic absorbance at 412 nm[reference:13]. CS activity is calculated from the rate of absorbance increase at 412 nm.

What You Get

The kit includes Extraction Buffer and Reagents I–VI[reference:14], with detailed sample preparation and calculation methods provided[reference:15]. Valid for 6 months when stored properly[reference:16].
