Additional Information

Background The thiol groups in living organisms mainly include glutathione thiol and protein thiol. The former not only repairs proteins damaged by oxidation, but also participates in the clearance of reactive oxygen species, while the latter plays an important role in maintaining protein conformation. By measuring the total sulfhydryl group content and glutathione content, protein thiol content can be indirectly determined. The thiol group reacts with 5, 5'- dithio bis nitrobenzoic acid (DTNB) to form a yellow compound with a maximum absorption peak at 412 nm.
