Product name Human Mucin-5 subtype B (MUC5B) ELISA Kit
Reactivity Human
Applications ELISA
Applications notes This Human Mucin-5 subtype B (MUC5B) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate MUC5B in samples. An antibody specific for MUC5B has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyMUC5B present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for MUC5B is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of MUC5B bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
Detection method Colorimetric
SampleType Cell culture supernatants, Other biological fluids, Plasma, Serum
Assay type Sandwich ELISA (quantitative)
Assay duration Multiple steps standard sandwich ELISA assay with a working time of 3-5 hours. It depends on the experience of the operation person.
Alternative MUC5B; MG1; MUC5; MUC9; cervical mucin MUC5B; high molecular weight mucin; mucin 5; subtype B; tracheobronchial; mucin MUC5B; mucin; salivary (high molecular weight)

Additional Information

Background MUC5B encodes a member of the mucin family of proteins, which are highly glycosylated macromolecular components of mucus secretions. This family member is the major gel-forming mucin in mucus. It is a major contributor to the lubricating and viscoelastic properties of whole saliva, normal lung mucus and cervical mucus. MUC5B has been found to be up-regulated in some human diseases, including sinus mucosa of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), CRS with nasal polyposis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and H. pylori-associated gastric disease, and it may be involved in the pathogenesis of these diseases.
