Product name Human 28S ribosomal protein S22, mitochondrial (MRPS22) ELISA Kit
Reactivity Human
Applications ELISA
Applications notes This Human 28S ribosomal protein S22, mitochondrial (MRPS22) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate MRPS22 in samples. An antibody specific for MRPS22 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyMRPS22 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for MRPS22 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of MRPS22 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
Detection method Colorimetric
SampleType Cell culture supernatants, Other biological fluids, Plasma, Serum
Assay type Sandwich ELISA (quantitative)
Assay duration Multiple steps standard sandwich ELISA assay with a working time of 3-5 hours. It depends on the experience of the operation person.
Alternative MRPS22; C3orf5; COXPD5; GIBT; GK002; MRP-S22; RPMS22;

Additional Information

Background Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and help in protein synthesis within the mitochondrion. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit. They have an estimated 75% protein to rRNA composition compared to prokaryotic ribosomes, where this ratio is reversed. Another difference between mammalian mitoribosomes and prokaryotic ribosomes is that the latter contain a 5S rRNA. Among different species, the proteins comprising the mitoribosome differ greatly in sequence, and sometimes in biochemical properties, which prevents easy recognition by sequence homology. MRPS22 encodes a 28S subunit protein, mitochondrial ribosomal protein S22 that does not seem to have a counterpart in prokaryotic and fungal-mitochondrial ribosomes. MRPS22 lies telomeric of and is transcribed in the opposite direction from the forkhead box L2 gene. A pseudogene corresponding to MRPS22 is found on chromosome Xq.
