Product name EliKine™ Human MMP-9 ELISA Kit
Reactivity Human
Applications ELISA
Applications notes EliKine™ Human MMP-9 ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate MMP-9 in samples. An antibody specific for MMP-9 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any MMP-9 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for MMP-9 is added to the wells. After washing, proprietary EliKine™ Streptavidin-HRP conjugates is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound streptavidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of MMP-9 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
Detection method Colorimetric
SampleType Cell culture supernatants, Other biological fluids, Plasma, Serum
Assay type Sandwich ELISA (quantitative)
Assay duration Multiple steps standard sandwich ELISA assay with a working time of 3-5 hours. It depends on the experience of the operation person.
Alternative MMP 9; MMP-9; MMP9; Matrix Metalloproteinase 9; GELB; Type V collagenase; Matrix metallopeptidase 9 (gelatinase B, 92kDa gelatinase, 92kDa type IV collagenase)

Additional Information

Background Proteins of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes, such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in disease processes, such as arthritis and metastasis. Most MMP's are secreted as inactive proproteins which are activated when cleaved by extracellular proteinases. The enzyme encoded by this gene degrades type IV and V collagens. Studies in rhesus monkeys suggest that the enzyme is involved in IL-8-induced mobilization of hematopoietic progenitor cells from bone marrow, and murine studies suggest a role in tumor-associated tissue remodeling.
