Additional Information

Background Sulfides exert significant effects on both organisms and aquatic environments, making the accurate detection of their concentrations of broad importance. The detection principle of this kit is based on the classic methylene blue colorimetric method. This method relies on the specific chromogenic reaction of sulfides: under strong acidic conditions containing Fe3+, sulfides (including H2S, HS+, and S2-, all of which are converted to H2S upon acidification) undergo a quantitative reaction with the chromogenic agent N,N-dimethyl-p-phenylenediamine to produce methylene blue, which exhibits a characteristic blue color. Methylene blue has its maximum absorption peak at 680 nm, and the absorbance at this wavelength shows a good linear relationship with the concentration of the chromogenic product. By comparison with a standard curve, the total sulfide content in the sample can be determined. The methylene blue method, with high sensitivity and good selectivity, is a classic standard method for the detection of sulfides in water.
