| Background | Alanine aminotransferase (ALT/GPT, EC 2.6.1.2), also known as glutamic pyruvic transaminase, is primarily found in hepatocytes. Under normal physiological conditions, ALT levels in serum are extremely low. When hepatocytes are damaged by factors such as inflammation or necrosis, intracellular ALT is released into the bloodstream, leading to elevated serum ALT levels. Therefore, serum ALT activity is a sensitive indicator of hepatocellular injury and is widely used in the early diagnosis, disease monitoring, and prognosis assessment of liver diseases. CheKine™Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT/GPT) Activity Assay Kit (IFCC Rate Method) can detect samples such as Animal Tissues, Cells, Plasma, Serum. The principle is ALT catalyzes the reaction between alanine and α-ketoglutarate to produce pyruvate and glutamate. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) then catalyzes the reaction between pyruvate and NADH to generate lactate and NAD+. ALT activity is determined by measuring the rate of decrease in NADH absorbance at 340 nm. |
