Descriptions:Macrophage Migration Inhibitory Factor (MIF) is a pleiotropic cytokine, existing as a homotrimer in vivo. MIF was originally identified as a T cell derived factor responsible for the inhibition of macrophage migration. However, recently MIF has received much more attention because of its possible roles in angiogenesis and cancer development. The intratumoral expression of MIF is strongly correlated with angiogenic growth factor expression, such as the expression of Interleukin 8 (IL-8) and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF), and with risk of recurrence after resection.

Descriptions:Chemokine (C-X-C motif) Ligand 1 Protein (CXCL1) is a growth factor for melanoma cells and a chemotaxin for neutrophils and a member of the CXC chemokine family that is a potent neutrophil attractant and activator and is also active toward basophils. CXCL1 is expressed by macrophages, neutrophils and epithelial cells; it has neutrophil chemoattractant activity.

Descriptions:Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) was first identified as a Growth Factors due to its ability to induce proliferation and differentiation of bone marrow progenitors into granulocytes and macrophages. GM-CSF is produced by multiple cell types including activated T cells, B cells, macrophages, endothelial cells and fibroblasts upon receiving immune stimuli. GM-CSF stimulates stem cells to produce granulocytes and monocytes functions as a cytokine.

Descriptions:The transforming Growth Factors beta (TGF beta) family of cytokines are ubiquitous, multifunctional, and essential to survival. They play the central roles in growth, development, inflammation, repair, and host immunity. The mammalian TGF beta isoforms (TGF beta 1, beta 2 and beta 3) are secreted as potential precursors and possess a variety of cell surface receptors and produces at least two mediate signal transductions.
