| Background | IL-26 was originally cloned from T cells transformed by Herpes Zokor Virus (HVS) and named AK155. It is a member of class II cytokine IL-10 family, and sends out a signal through a heterodimeric receptor complex consisting of two type I transmembrane receptor subunits. The human IL-26 gene has been located on chromosome 12q15. It encodes a polypeptide of 171 amino acids and a signal peptide of 21 amino acids. In addition to HVS-transformed T cells, IL-26 is also expressed in other virus-transformed T cell lines, fresh peripheral monocytes, activated NK cells and T cells. The mouse homologue of human IL-26 has not been identified. IL-26 binds to the heterodimer complex with high affinity, which consists of ligand-binding IL-20rα and non-ligand-binding IL-10rβ. Activation of receptor complex leads to rapid phosphorylation of STAT1 and STAT3 |
