| Background | Interleukin-13 is also called IL-13. It is a protein encoded by the IL-13 gene in humans. Interleukin-13 is an immunomodulatory cytokine mainly produced by activated Th2 cells. It participates in several stages of B cell maturation and differentiation. It upregulates the expression of CD23 and MHCⅡ, and promotes the transformation of IgE isoforms in B cells. This cytokine down-regulates the activity of macrophages, thus inhibiting the production of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines. |
