Background | Galectin-1, a member of the galactose lectin family, is a homodimer with a molecular weight of 14 kDa subunits and six cysteine residues per subunit. Cysteine residues should be in a free state to maintain a molecular structure capable of displaying lectin activity. The expression or overexpression of Galectin-1 in tumor and/or peritumor tissues is considered a biomarker for the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of malignant tumor. It is involved in the adhesion and migration of tumor cells, cell transformation, tumor cell transfer and invasion to surrounding normal tissues, tumor angiogenesis, tumor growth and tumor immune escape. |
