| Background | CYP4A11 encodes a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. The cytochrome P450 proteins are monooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. Cytochrome P450 family 4 subfamily A member 11 localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum and hydroxylates medium-chain fatty acids such as laurate and myristate. Multiple transcript variants have been found for CYP4A11. |
