Background | α-Galactosidase (α-GAL, EC 3.2.1.22) is widely present in animals, plants, microorganisms, and cultured cells, and can specifically catalyze α-The hydrolysis of galactoside bonds mainly participates in the degradation of galactosides such as raffinose, stachyose, melibiose, and galactomannan. α-GAL is crucial for the germination of plant seeds. In the early stages of seed germination, the D-galactose catalyzed by α-GAL is rapidly converted and consumed through glycolysis, providing the initial energy source for seed germination. |
