Product name Rat Melatonin receptor type 1B (MTNR1B) ELISA Kit
Reactivity Rat
Applications ELISA
Applications notes This Rat Melatonin receptor type 1B (MTNR1B) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate MTNR1B in samples. An antibody specific for MTNR1B has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyMTNR1B present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for MTNR1B is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of MTNR1B bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
Detection method Colorimetric
SampleType Cell culture supernatants, Other biological fluids, Plasma, Serum
Assay type Sandwich ELISA (quantitative)
Assay duration Multiple steps standard sandwich ELISA assay with a working time of 3-5 hours. It depends on the experience of the operation person.
Alternative MTNR1B; MEL-1B-R; MT2; melatonin receptor MEL1B; melatonin receptor type 1B

Additional Information

Background MTNR1B encodes the MT2 protein, one of two high-affinity forms of a receptor for melatonin, the primary hormone secreted by the pineal gland. This gene product is an integral membrane protein that is a G-protein coupled, 7-transmembrane receptor. It is found primarily in the retina and brain; however, this detection requires RT-PCR. It is thought to participate in light-dependent functions in the retina and may be involved in the neurobiological effects of melatonin. Besides the brain and retina this receptor is expressed on the bone forming cells where it regulates their function in depositing bone.
