Background | MYF5 is a Protein Coding gene. Myogenic Factor 5 acts as a transcriptional activator that promotes transcription of muscle-specific target genes and plays a role in muscle differentiation. Together with MYOG and MYOD1, co-occupies muscle-specific gene promoter core region during myogenesis. Induces fibroblasts to differentiate into myoblasts. Probable sequence specific DNA-binding protein. Diseases associated with MYF5 include skeletal muscle cancer and botryoid rhabdomyosarcoma. Among its related pathways are Developmental Biology and CDO in myogenesis. Gene Ontology (GO) annotations related to this gene include sequence-specific DNA binding and RNA polymerase II core promoter proximal region sequence-specific DNA binding.
