Product name Mouse Mucin-2 (MUC2) ELISA Kit
Reactivity Mouse
Applications ELISA
Applications notes This Mouse Mucin-2 (MUC2) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate MUC2 in samples. An antibody specific for MUC2 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyMUC2 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for MUC2 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of MUC2 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
Detection method Colorimetric
SampleType Cell culture supernatants, Other biological fluids, Plasma, Serum
Assay type Sandwich ELISA (quantitative)
Assay duration Multiple steps standard sandwich ELISA assay with a working time of 3-5 hours. It depends on the experience of the operation person.
Alternative MUC2; MLP; SMUC; mucin 2; mucin 2; intestinal/tracheal; mucin-like protein

Additional Information

Background Mucin 2 is particularly prominent in the gut where it is secreted from goblet cells in the epithelial lining into the lumen of the large intestine. There, mucin 2, along with small amounts of related-mucin proteins, polymerizes into a gel of which 80% by weight is oligosaccharide side chains which are added as post-translational modifications to the mucin proteins. This gel provides an insoluble mucous barrier that serves to protect the intestinal epithelium. The mucin 2 protein features a central domain containing tandem repeats rich in threonine and proline that varies between 50 and 115 copies in different individuals. Alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene have been described, but their full-length nature is not known.
