Product name Mouse IL-21 protein
Sequence Amino acid sequence derived from soluble form of mouse IL21 (Q9ES17) (Pro 25-Ser 146) was expressed, with an initial Met at the C-terminus.
Activity Measured by its ability to induce Interferon gamma secretion by human natural killer lymphoma NK-92 cells. The ED50 for this effect is typically 4-20 ng/ml. The ED50 for this effect is typically 4-20 ng/ml.
Protein length The recombinant mouse IL21 consists of 123 amino acids and has a calculated molecular mass of 14.3KDa. It migrates as a 15 kDa band in SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions.
Preparation method E. coli
Purity > 97 % as determined by SDS-PAGE
Alternative IL-21; Interleukin-21; IL21

Product Properties

Formulation Lyophilized from sterile PBS, pH 7.5
Molecular weight 14.3kDa
Usage notes Always centrifuge tubes before opening. It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized Mouse IL21 protein in sterile ddH2O not less than 100µg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
Storage instructions Lyophilized Mouse IL21 protein product should be stored desiccated below -20°C. Upon reconstitution, the protein should be stored at 4°C between 2-7 days and for future use below -20°C. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.
Shipping The product is shipped at ambient temperature.

Additional Information

Background IL21 belongs to the IL-15/IL-21 family. It is a cytokine with immunoregulatory activity. Cytokines are proteinaceous signaling compounds that are major mediators of the immune response. They control many different cellular functions including proliferation, differentiation and cell survival/apoptosis but are also involved in several pathophysiological processes including viral infections and autoimmune diseases. Cytokines are synthesized under various stimuli by a variety of cells of both the innate (monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells) and adaptive (T- and B-cells) immune systems. IL21 is expressed in activated CD4-positive T-cells but not in CD8-positive T-cells, B-cells, or monocytes. It may promote the transition between innate and adaptive immunity. IL-21 has been tried as therapy for alleviating allergic responses. It can significantly decrease pro-inflammatory cytokines produced by T cells in addition to decreasing IgE levels in a mouse model for rhinitis (nasal passage inflammation)
