Product name Human Herpes simplexvirus II (IgM) antibody (HSVII-Ab) ELISA Kit
Reactivity Human
Applications ELISA
Applications notes This Human Herpes simplexvirus II (IgM) antibody (HSVII-Ab) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate HSVII-Ab in samples. An antibody specific for HSVII-Ab has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyHSVII-Ab present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for HSVII-Ab is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of HSVII-Ab bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
Detection method Colorimetric
SampleType Cell culture supernatants, Other biological fluids, Plasma, Serum
Assay type Sandwich ELISA (quantitative)
Assay duration Multiple steps standard sandwich ELISA assay with a working time of 3-5 hours. It depends on the experience of the operation person.

Additional Information

Background Herpes simplex virus 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2), also known as human herpesvirus 1 and 2 (HHV-1 and HHV-2), are two members of the herpesvirus family, Herpesviridae, that infect humans. Both HSV-1 (which produces most cold sores) and HSV-2 (which produces most genital herpes) are ubiquitous and contagious. They can be spread when an infected person is producing and shedding the virus. In simple terms, herpes simplex 1 is most commonly known as a "cold sore," while herpes simplex 2 is the one known by the public as "herpes," or "genital herpes." According to the World Health Organization 67% of the world population under the age of 50 have HSV-1.
